CELEBRATING FOURTEEN YEARS OF LEARNING

IPD is celebrating its own Heritage Day this year - it's IPD's 14th birthday this month!

As we teeter on the precipice of heading to two decades of training, up-skilling and knowledge sharing, we acknowledge that this would not be possible if it weren't for the staff, learners and stakeholders of IPD. Thank you to each of you for your contribution to our success!

OUR LEARNERS

There is nothing more fulfilling than watching learners have that "ah-ha!" moment, when everything becomes clear and a concept is truly understood. IPD prides itself on leading its learners to as many of these "ah-ha!" moments as possible, while encouraging them to apply their newfound knowledge in the real world. Being able to give learners the ability to impart truly beneficial knowledge to others is a priviledge that IPD is very grateful for.

EQUALISING PROFESSIONAL AND ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS

Issued by Perfect Word Consulting (Pty) Ltd

The view of many parents today is that their children will be assured a healthy career and the opportunity to build personal wealth if they get a university degree. However, where does this leave those that do not require a degree, or who do not want a degree? How then do we explain the number of unemployed graduates, which simply increases with every graduating class?

At the recent African EduWeek conference, Gizelle McIntyre, director of The Institute of People Development (IPD), confirmed that the myth that having a qualification will ensure a good job must be debunked. "There is a great reputational difference between professional and academic qualifications and this is due to the misconceived belief that the best way to prepare our children for employment is through a degree, or academic qualification." In her presentation, McIntyre stated that the Organising Framework for Occupations codes indicate that a staggering 70% of all high and low level work lies in the realm before degrees.

SOCIAL EVENTS AT IPD

May you all enjoy Heritage Day, fit in some rest and relaxation, and remember the words of the late Nelson Mandela in celebration of our rainbow nation; "When our first democratically-elected government decided to make Heritage Day one of our national days, we did so because we knew that our rich and varied cultural heritage has a profound power to help build our new nation."

IPD's Catering Coordinator, Pinky Motlakase, will be celebrating her birthday on the 9th of October.

Happy birthday Pinky! Thank you for all you do to take care of everyone at IPD and all of its learners, facilitators and guests. We are blessed to have you and hope you have a wonderful day!
