THE MANAGEMENT OF ETD

An ETD manager should be competent to develop strategic and operational plans for any skills development project. For example, if their organisation is offering a learnership, the ETD manager must be competent to develop a project plan which maps out the objectives, outputs, processes, responsibilities, timeframes and resource requirements for the project.

Providing education and training that is NQF-accredited requires that organisations should have well thought out, organic quality management systems in place. ETD managers therefore need to be able to develop and implement systems, tools and processes for managing the quality of the learnerships, skills programmes, technical training and any other skills development interventions they aim to deliver.

National and international research shows that the role of HRD and L&D managers has begun to shift. Particularly in organisations that face uncertain market conditions, staff often need to be able to learn on the job and from the job - they need multi-skilled, flexible, self-managerial and teamwork competencies. The role of these managers thus requires them to be able to embed education and training within workplace processes.

"Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten."
BF Skinner

NB! NEWS BULLETIN

  • Verification will be conducted mid-July; all learners are urged to submit their results timeously
  • Gizelle will be serving on the judging panel as a SABPP committee member for the Rising Star Programme
  • Gizelle will also be facilitating a panel discussion at the Skills Development Summit to be held on the 5th and 6th of August at the CSIR ICC in Pretoria
  • Gizelle is a speaker at the Eduweek conference to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre from the 9th to the 11th of July
THE IPD CONFERENCE CENTRE

The decision to move the IPD Conference Centre to Norfolk Road in Carlswald was made to ensure that learners have the benefit of a beautiful setting. The Conference Centre features peaceful views of rolling lawns, lush trees and even cows, while still being in the middle of Midrand; close to guesthouses, shops and main roads.

The IPD Conference Centre boasts various sized training rooms, a common area for lunch, superb catering, space for those important networking opportunities over a cup of coffee and, most importantly, a focus on learning and interaction.

REPORT BACK ON TRAINING

The team at the Morupule Coal Mine enjoyed their training by Allen McIntyre so much, they featured the training in their monthly newsletter. MCM confirmed that the presentation of the Train the Trainer programme by Allen was entertaining and informative. As a result, additional training has been booked.
Well done Allen, thank you for representing IPD in such a professional manner!

"The art of teaching is an art of assisting discovery."
Mark Van Doren, poet

Allen's relationship with IPD first began in 2012 as a learner. He was then appointed as a L&D Practitioner and is currently an Associate L&D Practitioner. Allen holds a FET Certificate and a Diploma in ETDP, is a qualified electrician, a CNC specialist and a proficient SDF. He draws from his favourite quote to remain encouraged to succeed; "The trouble is if you don't spend your life yourself, other people spend it for you," Peter Shaffer, Five Finger Exercise: A Play.

What Allen loves most about working at IPD is the opportunity his position gives him to interact with other people, to learn from them and to walk away from a learning intervention knowing he has made a difference. "I love being able to show them how the theory fits into the real world!"

Allen's professional passion is the continuous development of his own skills and to learn new skills and methods that will improve what he offers to his learners. He has been happily married since 1994 and has three beautiful daughters. In his spare time, Allen enjoys spending time with his family, participating in motorbike charity events and attending rallies with his wife.
